Government Committee
In almost every community, the largest and most influential organization
is usually the local government. Due to their place of authority,
influence, and size, the government is largely responsible for controlling
and creating the culture and atmosphere of a community.
The Government Committee of the Character Council is operating
to help the local governmental organizations create and promote
a culture of good character development within the central Oklahoma
community, by implementing good character within the operations
of city government, and by modeling and creating awareness to the
citizens about good character development.
The chairperson of the Government Committee is Mr. Clarence Powers.
Mr. Powers has served the citizens of Oklahoma City for several
years as a Sergeant in the Oklahoma City Police Department. The
character education movement in the schools of Oklahoma City and
the City of Oklahoma City’s community-wide character initiative
has largely occurred as a result of Mr. Power’s championing
of good character development.
